Great Success! + 3D Printed Branding Competition

I'd like to say a big thank you to the Reddit members of /r/ireland and occupants of Galway who made a trip in to see us at 091labs last Saturday for our Open Day and my 3D Printing Workshop. It was great meet some Redditors and I even got some stick for printing little Android trinkets over the Reddit Alien :P

I would also like to extend my gratitude to 091labs for their continual support and wicked space in the heart of Galway that I am able to work in!

Things are picking up and the orders are being filled with happy clients. So far I've printed off 3 Raspberry Pi cases for people and have generated loads of additional interest for prototyping and project work!

Competition Brief

I'm holding a competition to design my companies banner/logo. This will feature on the website which will be up Soon™ and on the various social media I have set up. (Hint: I like metallic Green on dark/metallic background ;) )

The Company name is CreoDrone and offers 3D printing and calibration services. I hope to eventually expand this into CNC Milling, Laser Cutting and other robotics. It is Galway's Premier 3D Printing service.

The prize for this competition is a free large print of your choice up to 5 hours in duration (worth €50 and not exchangeable for cash). You can select something from Thingiverse or have something you designed printed.

You can submit your entries to ciaran@091labs.com and I will announce our winner(s) on our Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/Creodrone ) and Twitter ( https://twitter.com/CreoDrone ) when I make my choice.

Thanks and Good luck

3D printing startup company - Galway first + Supported by 091labs

So I had to go and sort out work placement for the final module of my course. The problem? No where was hiring me! The place that I was meant to go to pulled out, no one else was taking interns and no one was hiring... solutions people? I need solutions!

Step 1 - Start your own Company
Step 2 - Do work placement there
Step 3 - ???
Step 4 - Profit (literally)

So I set up a 3D Printing and calibration company in Galways hackerspace 091labs with the help of a few members who donated the use of 2 printers, 1 which hadn't been completed and the other broken. I was also given a 3D scanner and a broken CNC milling machine and told to go nuts. And nuts i have gone!

After completing the Mendel90 printer and started running test prints I quickly discovered that 20 m of filament is not enough so i ordered close to €250 worth of roll to get myself off the ground. Its a scare position to put myself in considering the only food i have is whats left in my self and I have no idea where next months rent is coming from. I already have one client and an event coming up to work on that will hopefully take the bit out of most of that receipt but more work needs to be found before I can relax and get comfortable. One of my major advantages is that I'm the only company in Galway offering these services for now, and with the constant flow of artists, students, tourists and entrepreneurs I shouldn't have an issue sourcing work. But the sooner I have 2 operational printers the better.

So should you be a student in need of a final year project, an artist looking for a model, an entrepreneur looking for a rapid prototype or simply a handyman looking for a replacement part or repair, drop me a comment or email ciaran@091labs.com for a cheap and cheerful service.

091labs Event - 3D printing Workshop

Hi, My name is Ciaran. I am a member of Galways Hackerspace 091labs and I am launching my first start up 3D printing and Calibration company.  I will be running a 3D printer instruction day next Saturday (13.04.2013) between 9am and 6pm during our April Open Day. You can come by at any time and i can give you a 30 minute walk through on starting up, loading a file and printing an image.

3D Printing (also known as Additive Manufacturing) is a process which takes a 3D image and layers of plastics on top of each other to form a 3D model. These process is different to nearly all molding processes now a days which is used for mass production. 3D printing has applications for artists who require sculptures or models, modellers, rapid prototyping for start ups and rapid replacement and repair parts

Cost for the workshop is €10 event with all proceeds used to get loads more filament in different colours and types (we need ABS and PLA plastics) and cover repair costs for the second 3D printer and CNC milling machine. You get a free Android toy to take away and I'll help you with a second print down the line if you need anything big or fancy!

Our event is available to view HERE

Thank you and i hope to see you on Saturday
